With COVID-19 procedures and precautions changing every day, it can be hard to keep up with Holiday events in Blacksburg! Where can you find events and activities happening and stay up to date with what’s been canceled? We have done the hard work for you! Below we have collected information on holiday events happening in Blacksburg and virtual events to help fill your holiday season with plenty of cheer!
YMCA Craft Fair
The Annual YMCA Craft Fair is going VIRTUAL, offering you the opportunity to purchase unique, original, and beautiful handcrafted gifts for everyone on your shopping list. Starting on November 12th and running until December 31st, the virtual craft fair offers an online artist market for shopping, coupons for local businesses, streaming content including live music, dance, and more!
Small Business Saturday
It is more important than ever to shop small on Small Business Saturday, November 28th! With COVID-19, local businesses are struggling more than ever and need your support this holiday season. Many locally-owned Blacksburg businesses will be offering specials on Small Business Saturday. You can also take part in the Blacksburg Bucks program to make your dollar go even farther this holiday shopping season! Shop online, in person, or buy a gift card to help Blacksburg small businesses stay strong!
Reverse Holiday Parade
The town of Blacksburg will be staging a Reserve Christmas Parade, with the floats and entries stationed on the 900 block of Patrick Henry Drive and spectators drive by to view them from the comfort and safety of their cars! This year’s theme is “North Pole Fantasy” and will take place on Friday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m.
According to the Blacksburg Farmers Market social media, the Holiday Market is taking place in 2020! Taking place on Saturdays in December, the Holiday Market is the perfect place to pick up locally produced wreaths, holiday decorations, produce, artisan goods and handmade gifts.
Winter Lights Festival
Unfortunately, there has been no news or updates about the status of the Annual Winter Lights Festival for 2020 on any of Blacksburg’s official websites or social media accounts. We would assume the festival is not happening this year, but you can follow the Downtown Blacksburg Facebook page for more updates about Holiday events in Blacksburg.
Many of America’s favorite Holiday Events are still happening this year for everyone to enjoy from home!
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
The Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be converted to a made-for-TV spectacle, featuring the larger-than-life balloons, over-the-top floats, and big-name performers! You can watch the parade as always on NBC on Thursday, November 26th from 9 am to noon. Or, watch the live stream!
Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting
Enjoy the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on December 2nd with a live national broadcast hosted by NBC to officially mark the start of the Christmas season!
National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
Washington D.C’s 98th National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and holiday performances will take place on December 3rd on thenationaltree.org.
New Year’s Eve Ball Drop in Time Square
The Annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop in Time Square will also occur virtually this year. You can still countdown the ball drop and pop some champagne in the comfort (and warmth!) of your own home! The event will feature the iconic ball drop countdown, as well as performances and a recap of the year’s events broadcast on television and live stream.
